Course Overview

Presented by Vincent Mellnick, MD at Practical Radiology 2025. This talk will focus on common (and less common) causes of small bowel wall thickening, obstruction, and hemorrhage. The talk emphasizes the need to examine the bowel wall, contour, and contents in conjunction with clinical history in order to provide an appropriate differential diagnosis and better aid our referring clinicians.

Learning Objectives


1. Utilize plain film, CT and MRI to identify and characterize acute conditions of the small bowel
2. Identify conditions of the small bowel that result in obstruction, ischemia, inflammation, and hemorrhage
3. Differentiate between surgical and nonsurgical causes of acute small bowel pathology
