Course Overview

This case-based educational session reviews a range of pediatric musculoskeletal conditions, emphasizing characteristic radiographic findings and practical approaches to diagnosis. Through clinical imaging examples, participants will explore developmental hip disorders, benign and malignant bone lesions, skeletal dysplasias, infectious and metabolic conditions, and Langerhans cell histiocytosis. The session highlights key imaging features, including bone matrix patterns, periosteal reactions, epiphyseal and metaphyseal abnormalities, and skeletal deformities. Emphasis is placed on applying age-specific considerations, recognizing subtle radiographic findings, and using a systematic search pattern to improve diagnostic accuracy and differentiate conditions with overlapping imaging appearances.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify characteristic radiographic findings of common pediatric musculoskeletal conditions, including developmental hip disorders, bone tumors, skeletal dysplasias, and metabolic bone diseases.
  2. Differentiate benign, aggressive, infectious, and metabolic skeletal abnormalities based on imaging features such as bone matrix, cortical integrity, periosteal reaction, and lesion distribution.
  3. Apply age-specific considerations and systematic radiographic search patterns to recognize subtle abnormalities and narrow the differential diagnosis in pediatric musculoskeletal imaging.
